This week in the Quarter Notes Room, we discussed and created the lifecycle of a butterfly, namely the Monarch butterfly.
We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and Butterfly Colors and Counting by Jerry Pallota.
Additionally, I introduced The Monarch Butterfly Bookby David Swartz and led a class discussion about the book.
The Quarter Notes have inquisitive minds and had many questions regarding the various stages of the life cycle of a butterfly.
They were informed that when the weather was a bit warmer, we would actually raise our own larvae and watch them experience each change as they become adult butterflies!
Each child started out the week with their very own leaf, which they placed eggs on through the last stage with a beautifully bingo dotted adult butterfly!
In Mandarin, we sang our good morning song with Peishuan to start our day "zao shang hao ge qu jiao.”
We learned new vocabulary, such as learning to ski or "hua zue," snow, raincoat, sunglasses, ant and a white mouse! Various colors were discussed such as blue, green, red, and yellow.
Another subject we explored was rain! The Quarter Notes observed illustrations of a yellow raincoat, and we sang and “acted out” a beautiful new song with the English translation “my mom brings me the umbrella."
In Music class with Miss Lisa, we worked with Rhythm sticks, and rest and play position as well as rolling the ball.
We also played a song that we learned with Rhythm cards, using the sticks provided. As Quarter Notes, we are already defining what a quarter note, half note, whole note, and even an eighth note is!
We also went on a bear hunt! The Quarter Notes walked through pretend tall grass, muddy water, and even, a cave!
A lot of laughter and excitement was in the air as we made our way through the mud to the other side!
Outside our class had a wonderful time building a pretend campfire, going down the slides, and especially, playing on the seesaw!
We look forward to seeing you all on Monday to start another wonderful week of learning, play, and fun!
Warmly, Dana
