The Suzuki quarter notes this week started their unit on Passover! With Passover and Easter on the horizon, we are reading new books and beginning more fun-filled crafts and activities.
Our first activity was making a piece of Matzah with bubble wrap, brown paint, and paper. Additionally, we have been reading books on this upcoming holiday. The first book we read was Happy Passover by Linda Glader. We also read The Passover Guest by Susan Kusel.
Our class also painted and decorated Elijah's cup for a Passover Seder. The Quarter Notes loved choosing their own colors and jewels!
In Music this week with Miss Lisa, we marched to “Mississippi Stop Stop.” We also went over play position, rest position, and last but not least, the Suzuki bow! In the study of Suzuki Violin, it is imperative to have the "proper" violin stance. The shift of balance is just as important as how the violinist plays.
Miss Lisa also had our students place their rhythm sticks in rest position. The use of rhythm instruments aids in the development of auditory skills, fine motor skills, a sense of rhythm, and maintaining coordination of the mind and body.
Mr. Perry had an outstanding Sports week with The Quarter Notes! During Tai-Chi, he guided the students as they crawled on the ground like caterpillars and practiced becoming butterflies. He also conducted a bear hunt and the children ran to the bear cave as well!

Today, we had a wonderful presentation from Newton Pediatric Dentistry's Dr. Van Orenstein. During the virtual presentation, we learned what it’s like to visit the dentist and why it’s important for routine visits. Dr. Van Orenstein also discussed what types of foods are good for our teeth. The Doctor compared the effects of fruit snacks on the teeth versus those of fresh fruit. He also cautioned us to avoid excessive amounts of soda or apple juice. Our students enjoyed his virtual visit, and we hope to see Dr. Orenstein and his team again!
Outside we created our art canvas in honor of Jackson Pollock's method of drip painting. The Quarter Notes had a lot of fun adding colors and learning this new skill!
This week, we also played many times outside and enjoyed some beautiful weather with our friends! The Quarter Notes could feel spring in the air!
We look forward to welcoming a new week at Suzuki and wish you all a wonderful and restful weekend!
Warmly,
Dana
