This week, the Suzuki Quarter Notes were eager to return to their classroom at school! Friends reunited, laughed together on the playground, and spread infectious smiles throughout the classroom!

Our theme this week was Earth Day, which was presented to the Quarter Notes. We focused on the ideas behind treasuring the planet we all share. The goal is to educate the children, so they will protect our environment. Issues such as pollution, recycling, deforestation, and endangered species are all part of caring for Earth. The books we have been reading this week include My Friend Earth by Patricia MacLahlan, Earth Day by Nancy L. Sanders, On Our Nature Walk by Dr. Jillian Roberts, and Peppa Pig and the Earth Day Adventure by Astley Baker Davies.

On Monday, we made beautiful handprints surrounded by the words, "I can change the world with my own two hands." Following this, we created our own personal Earth Day collage for our families. Lastly, we created a beautiful tree with recycled egg cartons, fresh paint, and the creativity of our talented Quarter Notes!

This week in Music, Miss Lisa welcomed our class with a Cello Sweep from a Bach Prelude. The class began with each child rolling the ball to one another. We then put our violins in rest position. Each member of the Quarter Notes is improving their rest positions and their performance bow has become more natural after all this hard work! Miss Lisa also introduced us to violas, the cello, double basses, clarinets, and bassoons. The brass instruments include the trumpets and French horn. Miss Lisa also had our class sing "Spring is Here," a favorite of the Suzuki School of Newton. Additionally, she educated the class on every part of the violin.

In Sports this week, Mr. Perry conducted a unique Dinosaur game in a beautiful set-up outside! He also incorporated soccer and throwing the ball into the goal. Each child was so excited, and after many attempts, everyone had success. Another activity the Quarter Notes participated in was running frontwards and attempting to run backwards. We also delved into the many skills our students will use as future athletes as well! It was so much fun!

In Mandarin this week, Ms. Lily reviewed how to say good morning, and also how to spell and pronounce the word, “teacher.” She also led the Quarter Notes as they practiced counting with an illustration of hands and we all sang a new number song!

Outside, our class has enjoyed the spring weather, playing in the sandbox, painting our Earth Day projects, racing down slides, and conversing with friends. Spring is finally here!

We at Suzuki wish you all a wonderful weekend and look forward to spending another week with your children next week!

Warmly,

Dana
